"‘Hurt People Hurt People’ has probably existed since the dawn of humanity," says Gray about the song. "Definitely longer than this expression has even existed. The endless cycle in which we project our pain onto others. I believe I wrote this song to remind myself to break that cycle. We create our own suffering, our own pain. It’s time for us to develop self-love and let go of the pain. It never belonged to us in the first place."
Mudvayne looks to the future while also celebrating their impressive past. The song is released in conjunction with their upcoming US headlining tour for the 25th anniversary of their debut "L.D. 50." The tour kicks off on September 11 and runs until the end of October.
"L.D. 50" was the band's debut studio album, released in August 2000 via Epic Records, which established the band as a new and important player in the hard rock scene. The album was eventually certified Gold. Years after its release, the album was rightly named a metallic "must-have" album of the 00s by both Revolver and Metal Hammer.
