On June 3, 2025, the post-emo up-and-comers Hot Mulligan announced their highly anticipated fourth album The Sound a Body Makes When It's Still, which will be released on August 22 via Wax Bodega.
The new single and video "And a Big Load," also released on June 3, 2025, is the first single from the album.

"And a Big Load" is a cheeky, punky anthem that sets the tone for what listeners can expect from The Sound a Body Makes When It's Still. Driven by fear and frustration over positions we put ourselves in, the track is a cathartic, screaming first strike. In classic Hot Mulligan fashion, the lyrics candidly describe the difficulty of being painfully self-aware as the band laments, "Nothing good can come of me, I'm useless." The accompanying music video, directed by NAME, captures the perfectly chaotic energy of the song with a high-energy skatepark performance.
"It's about the consequences of your own actions. You can face them, or you can completely avoid them," says co-vocalist and guitarist Chris Freeman. "Our biggest conflicts and struggles are often self-inflicted. Drank too much? Hangover. What did you say last night? Apologize... or don't. You could commit suicide instead. You could commit to being sober. You could commit to drinking a million beers. At the end of the day, you have to deal with all of it. That's scary."
The Sound a Body Makes When It's Still will be Hot Mulligan's most coherent album to date.
