Swiss + Die Andern have a new, maximally rebellious seventh studio album ready. It will be released on September 5, 2025, consists of fourteen acts, and declares punk dead - at least in a distant future where Swiss + Die Andern no longer exist.
The Hamburg five-piece Swiss + Die Andern has been causing a ruckus in their self-created niche for over ten years - and has been a permanent guest in the top 5 of the German album charts since 2018. Swiss + Die Andern - that's "Bock auf Stress" and a willingness to get dirty, that's driving black instead of AMG, that's pogo sports in water cannon rain, that's pitch-black flags, sweatpants, and barking Reeperbahn mutts. Swiss + Die Andern, they are crooked nasal septums and other human flaws; that's "Tetris" in the head, that's work allergy, that's the emergency hammer in the snack machine. Swiss + Die Andern, that's "Randalieren für die Liebe", that's political slogans without being a know-it-all, that's ruthless honesty, those are the big feelings - and demolition and anti-attitude and aggression and winking and adolescence and ADHD. Swiss + Die Andern, that's punk that moves forward with hip-hop influences and hit melodies; that's a bit of System Of A Down, a bit of Rage Against The Machine, and sometimes also "leftist schlager".
Swiss + Die Andern, that's subculture in large halls, that's a close-knit circle with its own codes, that's barrio mentality in constantly growing clans - and a melting pot for underdogs, rebels, dropouts, class clowns, and failures. Swiss + Die Andern, they are frontman Swiss, Jakob Schulze, Matze Grimm, Tobias Gerth, and DJ Da Wizard - and a huge network of renowned companions who have long been welcomed into the 13/23 family. Swiss + Die Andern, they have also released seven studio albums since 2014 - and a best-of album for their ten-year anniversary. The last full-length LP "Erstmal zu Penny" reached the top position in the German charts in May 2023. There was always action, stage, intoxication, studio, highway, madness - and hardly any time to catch their breath. Swiss + Die Andern finally took that time starting at the end of 2024. The band has been on a multi-month social media break - and did not miss the miserable fake world of the internet for a second. Swiss took a vacation like the rest, enjoyed the loner life, and reflected on the wild months that had passed. The result? A kind of return to the essentials; and a clear resolution: Swiss + Die Andern should never feel like a job - but always like a class trip with the best friends. Curiously, the creation phase of the new album "Punk ist tot", which will be released in the summer of 2025, actually began with a kind of class trip.
Swiss + Die Andern rented an old, remote school building on the North Frisian coast in February 2025. Free from any distractions, numerous song sketches were created in a small space - without a deadline, but still at an enormous pace. No three months after finishing the North Frisian trip, "Punk ist tot" stands as a fourteen-part album that feels incredibly dense, yes, consistent, completely forgoing features and unmistakably picking up the angry SUDA band sound of the early years. "Punk ist tot" sounds more analog, rougher, black-red, and punkier than the highly produced predecessor "Erstmal zu Penny". However, this does not change the variety that "Punk ist tot" embodies. The album is both private and political, serious, cheeky, and self-ironic, loud and quiet, hopeful and apocalyptic, filled with rage and romantic, brutal and touching. Swiss + Die Andern alternately reference "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Sarà Perché Ti Amo" - a reflection of their musical breadth.
