"R U Famous' is about someone who is always trying to see what they can get out of people who are doing well in their music careers. I think the term is "starfucker", but I don't think you can say that in an article, haha! But that's really what it's about," says frontwoman Coco Kinnon. "It's a situation that I think unfortunately happens to many climbers, and something that happened to us through a person we thought was a friend."
Regarding the video, she adds: "We always said: 'When we really start leaning into the aesthetics of the millennium, then you know we're just after money.' So what better way to represent a slimy person than to be that money greed! The productions of We're All Gonna Die really brought our Tony Hawk Pro Skater aesthetic to life. We had so much fun being a couple of Y2K bros for a day, but I have no problem never wearing low-rise pants again.....“
The WINONA FIGHTER debut album “My Apologies To The Chef" will be released on February 14 via Rise Records.
The Nashville-based punk band led by the electrifying Coco Kinnon breathes new life into the reviving punk scene and has made it their mission to create punk music that is accessible and acceptable to all music lovers who want to listen.
Kinnon’s early acquaintance with the Boston punk rock scene was the catalyst for her current sound and stage presence. Moving to Nashville posed the challenge of conveying the power of thrash melodies to all music lovers. After lead guitarist Dan Fuson was recruited, the two welcomed Austin Luther (bass/producer) into the freshly baked family to meet their demands for punchy songs and intense live shows.
The band is known for their energetic live performances as a powerhouse. Their shows are a place where all bullshit and egos are left at the door - everyone is welcome, equal, and has to get on their feet. Recently, they opened for bands like Incubus, Motion City Soundtrack, Badflower, and Something Corporate, and played several sets at Bonnaroo 2023, with more festival appearances to follow.
Earlier this year, Winona Fighter stormed SXSW, followed by a full US tour with Bayside, Finch, and Armor For Sleep.
After signing with Rise Records, the band released new singles like "I'm In The Market To Please No One" and "Swear To God That I'm (FINE)" as well as new versions of fan favorites "Subaru" and "Wlbrn St Tvrn". Fans can look forward to more new music in the coming months, including Winona Fighter's debut album My Apologies To The Chef.
