The seemingly cheerful offbeat song with “earworm potential” reveals itself as a declaration of war against the annual so-called “day of honor” state parade, dominated by Hungarian right-wing extremists. “Partizani in Budapest” is thus firmly rooted in the tradition of rebellious resistance songs like “Ciao Bella Ciao,” which have taken a stand against fascism.
