TURBOSTAAT - JEDERMANNSEND (Music Video)

Turbostaat announces their eighth studio album "Alter Zorn" for January 17, 2025, and releases "Jedermannsend" as the first single, the centerpiece of the album.
Where once there were seagulls, Wadden Sea fog, and gray expanses, now flocks of pigeons and apocalyptic smog-covered concrete castles obscure the view of all that is beautiful. After their 25 Years Turbostaat tour in the fall, the band will embark on a regular "Alter Zorn" tour in 2025.
Turbostaat has never embraced their listeners on a musical level as peacefully as they do now. There has always been more understatement and North Frisian sobriety than charm offensives or cheerfulness. Turbostaat's music is punk rock that carries the fog of the Wadden Sea in its lungs - since the band formed in 1999 in the Schleswig-Holstein province and even a quarter-century later. Just recently - in late autumn 2024 - Marten Ebsen, Jan Windmeier, Rollo Santos, Tobert Knopp, and Peter Carstens celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of their band project, which has become a community.
Where once there were seagulls, Wadden Sea fog, and gray expanses, now flocks of pigeons and apocalyptic smog-covered concrete castles obscure the view of all that is beautiful. Turbostaat looks at neglected corner pubs, where dark shadows pile up, at metropolises that are becoming increasingly cramped - and rarely staring out at the open sea.
In Turbostaat's framework, too much "Alter Zorn" rages as a result of hard years marked by illness, concert cancellations, and overall crap. There was simply no room for recapitulations, grown-man punk, or a sanded-down 'everything was better before' album. "Alter Zorn" was once again produced by Moses Schneider and feels like a cleansing thunderstorm in twelve acts.
"Alter Zorn" challenges - not least because it seems to be mostly played in the challenging now and hints at a chilling dystopia that bears a dramatic resemblance to reality. As is now known, Turbostaat are not hymn writers, not slogan shouters, not clear speakers - but masters of poetic obscurity, confusing chains of association and metaphors, convoluted intellectualism, and fairy-tale darkness.
With "Jedermannsend", the centerpiece of "Alter Zorn" is released, and at the same time, the album finale as the first single. Where everything is dilapidated or wilted, surging anger and gallows humor are quite appropriate, yes, perhaps even necessary. "Just a drop in the ocean, but it swims after you," it says in the melancholic and, towards the last third, almost exploding "Jedermannsend". A piece that offensively and uniquely deals with the process of coping with grief. "Jedermannsend" bundles what makes "Alter Zorn" so special, so emphatic, so unmistakable: this strange simultaneity of capitulation and new beginnings, comprehensive fatigue and almost adolescent dynamism.
"Alter Zorn" by Turbostaat will be released on January 17, 2025 via PIAS / Rough Trade.
