Touché Amoré released on September 5, 2024, with 'Hal Ashby‘ the second single from the album "Spiral in a Straight Line“ which will be released on October 11 via Rise Records/BMG.
The track is named after the celebrated American director known for his work in the counterculture era of 70s cinema (Being There, Harold and Maude) and his tragically misunderstood characters. With clever twists and a powerful vocal performance, Jeremy Bolm explores the idea of big and small misunderstandings and expresses his desperate need for some kind of course correction.
Accompanying the single, Touché Amoré presents a surreal music video directed by Sean Stout, showing frontman Jeremy Bolm watching an Ashby-esque film in a theater, with the music blurring the line between the action on the screen and in the cinema itself. Bolm explains that the “Hal Ashby” music video is half a love letter to Hal and half a dreamlike interpretation of the song as a whole. Something that can be misunderstood as this or that - and the grace in between.

"Hal Ashby“ illustrates the theme of the spiral that runs through the new album - the feeling of getting caught in the emotional wreckage of words, emotions, memories, and pain that remain after things have been turned upside down, and figuring out how to push through. Spiral In A Straight Line challenges the band to dig deep again, and they return with a poignant work rooted in life-changing changes and the turmoil of moving forward while grappling with what has been left behind.
To realize their vision, Touché Amoré collaborated again with the legendary producer Ross Robinson (KoRn, Slipknot, Glassjaw, At The Drive-In, etc.), with whom they had previously worked on their critically acclaimed album “Lament,” which was awarded best new album by Pitchfork. "Spiral in a Straight Line" also features a collaboration with Julien Baker (of Boygenius) and rock pioneer Lou Barlow (Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, The Folk Implosion).
After the release of Spiral in a Straight Line, Touché Amoré will embark on their 2024 US headliner tour with support from Soul Glo, Portrayal of Guilt, and Soft Blue Shimmer.
