Q: Please tell me a few words about the band first.
A: We all come from Tarragona, which is a city near Barcelona. We have known each other and been friends since we were 10 years old. We have always liked rock music, and that's how the band ANKOR was formed in 2003 to play the music we love ourselves.
In the following years, we recorded some demos and our debut album "Al Fin Descansar." Our debut album features lyrics entirely in Spanish, our mother tongue.
Q: Your debut album came out in 2008. "My own Angel" in 2011. This album is
completely sung in English. Why the change?
A: We chose English because we believe that this language fits our music better. Additionally, we want to reach people all over the world, which is difficult if you only sing in Spanish. Of course, we also love the Spanish language, but we think it makes it easier for us with the English language.
Q: Your songs have very complex arrangements. Who writes the songs for you?
A: Most of the songs are written by our guitarist and singer David. But generally, everyone in the band contributes their ideas and lyrics to the songs. We enjoy writing songs; it makes us happy. We are even happier when what we have written is well received by the audience.
Q: With such complex songs, you must rehearse a lot, right?
A: Yes, we actually rehearse a lot. We enjoy it. The band is like a family to us. We spend a lot of time together.
Q: What influences do you see in your music?
A: We like good music, no matter what genre it comes from. For us, it doesn't matter whether it's jazz, funk, or pop. Our musical influences are primarily metal bands like Avenged Sevenfold, Killswitch Engage, Bullet for My Valentine, Within Temptation, Nightwish, Paramore, Halestorm…
Q: The voice of your singer Rosa de la Cruz is very powerful and at the same time clear.
How did you become aware of Rosa? Did she have any special vocal training?
A: We met Rosa in 2005 when she was in our city. We quickly became friends.
Rosa's voice is perfect for the kind of music we make.
Rosa has been singing for years and has spent many hours improving her voice.
Thus, her voice has gained the necessary energy to sing metal songs. However, it must be emphasized that despite the necessary energy, she has never lost the softness and sweetness in her voice that distinguishes her.
Q: Let's briefly talk about the situation in Spain. Youth unemployment is
extremely high. Finding a job is generally very difficult. The economy is at a standstill.
How could the situation be improved?
Are you personally affected by these bad circumstances?
A: What you say is true. It is generally very hard for many people right now. For bands, it is even harder. Many clubs have closed, and many promoters no longer take risks. Often, you have to pay a lot just to be able to play. We hope that, little by little, the situation will improve for us over time.
Q: How can the situation in Spain be improved?
A: We need more jobs and honest, reliable politicians!
Q: I heard that you might want to play in Germany in 2012. Is that true?
A: We are currently looking for opportunities to play in Germany. The sooner, the better.
However, there are currently no concrete dates set.
In Spain, the kind of music we make is not very well known, but we have many fans.
We would be happy to come to Germany soon and gain some fans there, perhaps even more than we have in Spain.
Q: Why should someone attend one of your concerts?
A: If you come to one of our concerts, you can be sure that we will give everything on stage!
