Q: In February and March, you will be playing in Europe for the first time. What are your expectations?
A: We would love to touch snow for the first time in our lives.
Q: You come from New Zealand. Tell me a bit about the music scene there. Which clubs would you recommend and what is special about music from New Zealand?
A: New Zealand is a wonderful place to write music and to play live. It's hard to say, but I think New Zealand bands have a unique style that people all over the world appreciate and enjoy.
We often interact with bands from abroad that are touring in New Zealand. It doesn't matter where the bands come from; everyone wants to know where the record stores are and where they can find the sold-out records from Flying Nun Records. The label Flying Nun is a legendary New Zealand record label, whose limited editions are sought after by collectors all over the world.
Q: How well-known are you in your home country and in Australia?
A: We play as much as we can. Right now, all the band members are spread out across the globe, which makes it difficult to play many concerts.
Q: Your songs are exclusively instrumental pieces. Why are there no songs with vocals from you?
A: KERRETTA developed from improvised recording sessions. The use of vocals is not an option for us at the moment.
We didn't consciously decide against vocals. The songs developed this way, and we believe that the songs are very good even without vocals.
Q: Your sound is very experimental and atmospheric. How do the pieces come about?
A: The ideas for our music often come when we play around and record these pieces. From this sound, we gradually shape our songs. Or someone comes up with an idea, and we start to work it out. We record, listen to the material, refine it, and gradually the song emerges from all of that.
Q: What led you to play the sound that you play?
A: We are children of the '80s, so probably MTV.
Q: How important is your music to your life?
A: Important enough to fly halfway around the world, tour through the snow in Europe, and play for you.
Q: Why have all your releases so far only been on vinyl?
A: We have always liked vinyl. Of course, vinyl is expensive, but it also gives the music a higher value.
Q: Why should someone come to your concerts?
A: Because it’s warmer where we play than outside in the cold.
There’s nothing more to add, especially since the weather frog on the radio told me that there will be daytime highs of -10 degrees starting mid-week.
Check out the band at http://www.myspace.com/kerretta and dare to brave the cold.
In the club, you can expect a band that drives the cold out of your limbs and gives you confirmation with every second that it was worth going out.
