Q: How are you? What did you do in the summer? Were you able to enjoy the
summer this year?
A: Summer 2024 was great. We played at some festivals
and also had some club concerts. Most of the concerts
were in Germany, but there were also gigs in
Spain and Norway.
Additionally, I built a rehearsal space or a small
studio outside of Copenhagen this summer. We, The
Movement, spent a lot of time there.
It's nice. We call it "Mississippi Studio".
Q: Since you founded THE MOVEMENT, it has been a
political band. How do you see the Israel-Palestine conflict?
A: It is a terrible situation.
Q: What can the international community do to alleviate the
situation? How can peace be created?
A: I don't know!
I don't believe that the international community wants peace.
The situation is similar in the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
NATO is expanding, Finland and Sweden (after 200 years of neutrality)
are joining NATO (a centralization of military forces), they
will build 34 new bases in Scandinavia.
We already have American soldiers in Denmark.
All politicians, from left to right, are cheering.
I can't see a peace movement anywhere.
Q: Most European nations are drifting to the right.
What do you think are the reasons for this and how can it be turned
more to the left again? What needs to happen?
A: In my view, the left has failed across the board.
For me, there is no “left or right” anymore.
There is an up and down - as Bob Dylan says.
It is a bad strategy to think that people need to position themselves politically
clearly and need a profound political education before anything can change.
John Lennon said: The war is over - if you want it!
If people reclaim their own authority and say:
"No! Put down the weapons, we won't do this anymore"...
Then something could happen... if we really want it!
It is a sad development. However, I don't know how this
development can change in the short and medium term.
Q: Can the fight against climate change also bring about a societal,
social change?
A: I don't know how to combat climate change, is that really
possible?
I might have an idea of how to prepare for climate change
because the climate has always changed.
It will bring about a social change! I believe that is the meaning
and purpose of it all.
But it is not a social change that I wish for.
Q: I often feel that nature conservation is neglected in the left scene,
even though we need nature so much to survive. How do you see it?
A: You are absolutely right.
We are a part of nature. That is clear.
I clearly distinguish between environment and climate change.
I think that large solar farms on fields or on green
pastures are not positive for nature. It is rather a shame that so
much nature or agricultural land is being converted.
The new "green agenda" with the batteries, etc. is nothing more than a
new market for big companies to make money.
The extraction of battery metals has nothing green about it.
Q: Do you see THE MOVEMENT, in the way they address things,
as a radical band?
A: No, not really.
We are truth seekers.
We do not belong to any ideological belief system, our main goal is
freedom. And even “freedom” has become a negative word
these days because if we do not follow the narrative, we will be deleted
and censored.
In the past, opinions were discussed, but today that is not the case anymore.
We are a rock'n roll band!
Q: How does THE MOVEMENT manage to bring this incredibly energetic sound
and breathtaking show to the stage?
A: It's hard, but we like it!
We are all very good at relaxing when we are not playing, we
can all sleep long.
I get up at 12:00 when I'm at home.
The sound is the 3pice sound that I love, it's hard to explain,
but it's Rickenbacker guitars and rock'n roll is energy.
It is a frequency that connects us.
Q: What is the current situation of the left and punks in Denmark?
A: From my perspective, the situation is very bad.
In the past, the left stood for freedom and against war.
Today they follow the same agenda and the same narrative as the
(political) mainstream. Today they all scream for more weapons for the
Ukraine.
Q: What is your stance on Spotify and Co.?
A: I use Spotify when I'm at home. That's also because I don't have all
my vinyl records anymore.
We don't really make money with Spotify, but it's better for us to be there than not to be there.
We can make money by playing live.
Q: Soon (16.10.2026 - 26.10.2026) THE MOVEMENT will go on a tour with eleven concerts, without an off day. How do you prepare for such a tour?
A: Unfortunately, our drummer Alexander Page recently cut his hand.
Now we have to take another drummer with us. We asked
Philip Ingemann, who played with THE MOVEMENT from 2015-2017. Philip will be joining the tour as a drummer. We had to
rehearse a bit more so that he can learn the new songs.
It will be good.
Otherwise, we are looking forward to getting around and having a good time.
Q: Is there a person you would like to spend a day in the tour bus with?
A: Chuck Berry.
Or maybe with a talkative alien from a distant galaxy.
Q: The last album “Future Freedom Time“ was released in 2020 and is already four years old. Is a new album in the works?
A: Yes, we have started recording some first demos.
We will record the album in our own studio, the “Mississippi Studio”
near Copenhagen.
“Future Freedom Time” was released two weeks before the outbreak of the Corona-
pandemic, so our tours were canceled and
the album never got the attention it deserved.
But I can already say that the next album will be great.
