STATUS ON FIRE from Brazil presents their...exactly, fourth album, "IV". It is an album that is not only extremely important to the band, but it also powerfully represents the situation in Brazil both musically and lyrically.
STATUS ON FIRE embodies anger and despair, channeling these feelings into the ten songs on their new album.
The channeling occurs in a hardcore-heavy metal sound from the 80s to the 00s. On top of that, there's a solid dose of punk. A truly explosive mix. This is already evident with the first song. After a relatively calm beginning, it goes full throttle. Enthusiastic guitar playing, perfectly placed drumming, and a lot of energy. These are the three cornerstones on which the songs on "IV" stand.
Oh wait, I forgot the vocals. I must not forget this. This distinctive singing, which sometimes struggles against the musical wall of its fellow musicians.
The lyrics mostly deal with the consequences of Bolsonaro's rule. These consequences include 700,000 deaths during the Covid epidemic and an extremely promoted destruction of nature, particularly the rainforest. This is accompanied by an increase in arms sales, which in turn promotes more violence and deaths.
However, the songs aim not only to name the truly great injustices but also to show that it is possible to take action against them. A different world is possible, a better world.
