The first thing I thought when listening to the second album by SCHALKO was, why do they sound so much like Pascow and especially Love A? Can't they come up with anything of their own?
Now, it is a cross-genre phenomenon that can be observed that successful bands are often copied, whether consciously or unconsciously is up for debate. What works for Band A should work for us too.
I see “Please 3x Fries” by SCHALKO in a similar light.
Angry screaming is considered singing.
A noisy, dirty guitar that builds a sound carpet is seen as aggressive and perhaps even avant-garde. It certainly doesn't sound pleasant. Cuddling is different.
The drummer supports this dirty, noisy sound by hitting the cymbals hard and with plenty of power.
Sometimes it does make an impression when a well-known band praises a lesser-known band. Here, Bene Diktator from Acht Eimer Hühnerherzen has spoken positively about them. Unfortunately, Acht Eimer Hühnerherzen also leans a bit in this direction, so the bands probably know each other well.
Yes, it's fair to give SCHALKO credit for coming from the deep south of the republic, with their focal point being the beautiful student city of Freiburg im Breisgau, known for its lovely beer gardens and vibrant alternative culture. You don't find subculture on every corner in BaWü.
It's almost a bit sad that this album doesn't resonate with me more.
If it weren't for Love A, this would probably be the new hot shit...
