25 years, 6 albums, and I'm hearing something from PASCOW for the first time (consciously). I must have heard the band from Rhineland-Palatinate on Spotify or Radio BOB before, but they never stood out to me among the multitude of artists there. That has clearly changed with their seventh album "Sieben".
The band has actually been around for 25 years, and the band name is just as old, borrowed from a character in "Pet Sematary". In true RAMONES fashion, the band members have also given themselves the last name; who doesn't do that (I just say NON CONFORM, my band in the 90s)? However, I read the book over 30 years ago, so I have no idea who this PASCOW was. Anyway, only the brothers Alex (vocals & guitar) and Ollo PASCOW (drums) remain from the founding phase of the band. The band is now completed by Swen on the second guitar and Flo on bass.
Musically, they are said to have changed over the years; now they definitely play super cool German melodic punk rock that sometimes gets harder and comes with sharp-witted lyrics. I like it!
In the 36 minutes (playing time), it’s about personal (emotional) change (or not), the damn aging + the elite, the broken environment + the AfD, armed conflicts + (very often) God, the dear money + politics, and even about Wall-E + Eve.
Three songs have already been released from "Sieben" and can be heard on YouTube, and that’s also the only flaw I have with the 12 PASCOW songs, the one instrumental song, and the outro (so 14 tracks in total). Listen to "Himmelshunde"; in the chorus, Alex raises the pitch so high, I personally just don’t like it. But maybe you’ll like this part!??! Definitely give it a listen.
On the other hand, I’ve already caught myself whistling the chorus melody in everyday life. Without listening to PASCOW....
And this "raising" of the pitch doesn’t occur in every song, check out the other two songs.
Therefore, I can wholeheartedly give 9 points for this awesome album.
P.S. PASCOW are extremely environmentally conscious and try to avoid plastic as much as possible; for example, this LP comes in a cardboard fold cover, and the CD tray is somehow made from corn or something.... Top!
