The debut E.P. "Ember" is the first of three chapters about turmoil, war, and grief, which the Dresden death metal band AGE OF ALTERATION released in the summer of '22. They really go all out with their fast-paced riffs and robust growling vocals.
After a short piano intro, there are two tracks that hit hard in the death metal style, straightforward and full of energy.
A brief rest with track 4, which is again a piano piece (or perhaps an E-piano or created on the PC?), before heading into the final sprint. Again, two heavy-hitting death metal songs.
Musically, the 4 x 5 minutes are played very precisely, and they unwaveringly stick to their death metal path. The same applies to the vocal parts.
However, I personally only enjoy these 6 tracks to a certain extent. I'm just not a death or black metal devotee. I can listen to the music occasionally, but I miss the variety, the bridges, the breakdowns, the melodic elements, the harmony. While they are present to some extent, subjectively, it feels too little for me, and therefore I couldn't listen to this E.P. 4 times in a row.
Overall, "Ember" is very well made for the genre, but with 4+2 songs, it's far too short.
