“Is this a '77 band or a current band?“, I was asked when SUZI MOON was playing from my speakers.
This question hits the nail on the head when it comes to SUZI MOON from Washington D.C.
From Washington D.C.? Do musicians and bands even come from there? Well, SUZI MOON originally hails from Southern California, and plenty of musicians and bands come from there.
SUZI MOON consists of three men and one singer. And what a singer she is. One has to say, a real eye-catcher, and the way she presents herself is impressive. However, SUZI MOON has much more to offer than just a pretty singer. This singer also has a great voice. When she sings, she reminds me a bit of Sarah Blackwood when she was still with The Creepshow. A feminine, pleasant, yet very confident and strong voice.
Of course, a voice is not everything, and I don’t want to forget the guys who give the catchy melodies a musical framework.
SUZI MOON doesn’t sound like this is their debut, and when I look at the tour schedule, I think they haven't just started last week. The band opened for The Damned, plays with The Briefs, has already performed at major festivals in Europe, and I think it’s only a matter of time before the band will embark on a big tour here in Europe. Their music has so much to offer that appeals to the discerning punk rocker and, of course, the discerning punk rockerette. Melody, a bit of grit and grime but not too much, plenty of rock 'n' roll attitude, and if the pictures online are to be believed, there’s an energetic stage show to go along with it.
If The Baboon Show is too extreme or too hard and The Creepshow is too much rock, then you should definitely give SUZI MOON a try. Somewhere between The Ramones and punky Blondie, SUZI MOON has found their place, and they fit there as if the spot had always been reserved just for them.
SUZI MOON has released a remarkable debut album, “Dumb & in Luv“, appropriately on vinyl.
SUZI MOON, a band worth remembering.
