Oh, what is this?
Is this Polka?
Is this Klezmer-Punk?
Is this Blues on drugs?
Is this Country-Dark-Trash from crazy people?
Yes, it must be! No normal person makes such twisted music.
WolfWolf is actually two people, namely Mister Wolf on drums and Mister Wolf on guitar. The band has already released several works. The music that has come out so far has a consistently dark, daring sound. Describing this sound alone is already difficult. Somewhere between Dark-Punk, Rock'n'Roll, Oldschool Psychobilly, 60s sound, Johnny Cash, and P. Paul Fenech.
However, what they are now releasing with this new EP expands the horizon even further. Now there is a bass or a second guitar, trumpet, and trombone involved.
So the combo stood in the studio and thought, what to do?
Mister Wolf said, we have songs and the others said “Cool“ and off they went.
Of the six songs, two are wildly fast, like the opener “Monster“ and although not quite as fast, “The Wolves are coming“.
The other songs are rather calm, almost leisurely, yet with a dark depth that constantly reminds me of P. Paul Fenech. Mr. Wolf's singing is simply very similar, at least in terms of the style of singing, not the pitch. Overall, this dark Psychobilly... it keeps coming through. I also define Country and Blues, and maybe even something I would describe as atmospheric Gothic. Especially noticeable in “Lucifer“.
In “Count Vlad“, a bit more of the 60s sound combined with Rock'n'Roll comes to the fore. However, there is also a very trashy, hard-to-pin-down note in it.
In the last song I will discuss, “I crushed the Devil“, it strongly leans towards the Country and Blues corner. It is a dark song. There is an atmosphere of the uncanny over this song, although the brass players are allowed to skillfully weave in some musical rays of sunshine here.
The EP is musically something that I really like. Atmospheric songs that belong more to the night than to the day.
At night, in the dark, the songs, except perhaps the opener, unfold a very special (pulling) effect that I haven't felt in a long time.
The EP is also available as a 12" vinyl, limited to 300 copies!!
