It is not everyday that someone like me is so enthusiastic upon first hearing music with which they do not have such an intimate connection. Here, I was captivated, and that’s why I want to present this release so that you, dear reader, can be just as excited as I am.
The release of “The Reckless One” by SAMANTHA MARTIN & DELTA SUGAR is about soul. Old school soul. It is real soul.
The band was formed in 2014 and released their first album in 2015, and since then, the band has been on the sunny side of soul.
Of course, the Canadian band did not start making music only in 2014.
The singer released her first EP back in 2004. And it’s not just the singer SAMANTHA MARTIN who is experienced. Here, seasoned musicians are playing.
With “The Reckless One,” the band’s third album will be released on November 20, 2020. This album is not only well recorded, but it also really grabs you. There is an enormous amount of heart in it. You can tell. It becomes apparent upon first listen that not only are good musicians making good music, but they are doing something they are completely convinced of.
The arrangements of the songs remind one of the good old soul days. The time when Tina Turner also had her greatest successes. It is that kind of sound that you would hear in many small and larger bars. The sound that was the soundtrack of a generation. The band conveys this sound so wonderfully, as if each band member is freshly in love with this music.
SAMANTHA MARTIN, as the captain of the band, is not only a singer; she also wrote and arranged the songs herself. The band enthusiastically accompanies her. A great voice, excellent guitar playing, gently placed drums, and a joy of playing that is rarely heard at this level.
I think I am slowly but surely falling in love with this sound, with this band.
Especially in these times, I can only recommend listening to this band, this new album. Bad moods will be blown away, smiles and energy will come into life.
