Don't worry, I'm not transcribing any lyrics here, just giving a little impression of a song called “Plan B“ from the album “Adrenochrom“ that the ANTILOPEN GANG produced during the lockdown phase.
What else can you do as a rapper when you can't perform and your head is full of creative ideas?
ANTILOPEN GANG have released “Andrenochrom“, an album that perhaps could only have come about because of this unique global event.
So it went, forced back to the roots.
The lockdown and the Corona regulations were terrible and even life-threatening for many bands and musicians. So what can you do? Stick your head in the sand and withdraw? That's legitimate. However, that's not the way of Kolja, Panik Panzer, and Danger Dan. The three used the time for what they do best. Just get started, and what came out of it is definitely worth listening to.
Even old punks like me feel at home at least by “Pepsi und Basmatireis”, as the lyrics and the storyline are full of similarities to the song “Jürgen Engler's Party” by die Toten Hosen from 1982. If that doesn’t bring back memories of youth, I don’t know what will. Nowadays, the ANTILOPEN throw a party and, as expected, we can't get in. And even if Jürgen Engler is still throwing a party (is he still doing that?), we won't go, at least says the rapping trio.
So it’s no wonder that the ANTILOPEN GANG feel 17 again, which they loudly proclaim in the next track “Hokus Pokus”.
Upon closer listening, you can recognize a lot of references to various bands and artists. It flows so casually into the microphone that you sometimes have to wonder what the guys have just conjured up from the hip.
They even thought of us reviewers. We are held up a mirror with the two skits “Würfel” and “Messer”. Okay, in “Messer” the trio is insulted in a derogatory manner, which I personally would never do. Always remain factual, but it also shows that there are indeed people in the writing profession...let's say, odd characters, whose names I can't quite recall (not that I want to receive hate mail, my sensitive mind couldn't handle that).
There’s a lot to like on the album, and I say this even as someone who only really got to know the hip hop trio with the bonus disc “Atombombe auf Deutschland” from the release “Anarchie und Alltag” (another nice reference to...well, who knows?).
“Andrenochrome” is only being released digitally, which is somewhat unfortunate. If you’re going back to your roots, you could at least release the album on music cassette, right?
