TOMAS TULPE, the workaholic from Berlin's Ostkreuz (I once changed trains there when I surfed from Gesundbrunnen to Alte Försterei on the S-Bahn), now releases a new album every two years, and with his fourth long player "Der Mann im Pfandautomat" (how can one come up with such a name), he is once again aiming for the Top 6 of the ZDF Hitparade.
And I have also discovered two top secret pieces of information about TOMAS TULPE! Firstly, he has a Wikipedia entry! And secondly, he shares the same birthday as my offspring, respect ;-)!
Since the last album "In der Kantine gab es Bohnen" (http://www.ramtatta.de/s/reviews/f/details/id/8082/), TOMAS TULPE has also made a musical step forward. It's not just NDW music à la TRIO that can be heard; no, now you can even hear FALCO (“Dein Zimmer in Berlin”) and old DEPECHE MODE music (“Freude im Gebäude,” although the chorus of the song mutates into a Ballermann song)! Fundamentally, however, there is still synthie-minimal-retro-electro-pop (“Botox im Bauch,” “Ich bin ein V.I.P.” and “Grafitti geht nicht ab”), partially with future-pop elements in the 13 songs.
What's new is that two songs are in English!!! “Save money get rich” with little text and “I don’t want a photo” with a bit more text... Speaking of text, the lyrics are not included with the album :-( Minus point!
Lyrically, the songs are not only about sex (“Ich geh in die Sauna”); the most important things in life are also addressed (“Bier auf’n Weg”). The third and fourth most important things in life are also mentioned (“Komm doch bitte nicht mit deiner dicken Butterstulle an mich ran” and “Der Pfandautomat nimmt meine Flasche nicht an”). I can't relate to the 12th song (“Jeder kennt Jarvis Cocker”); I don't know the guy....
Nevertheless, this song, like all other TOMAS TULPE songs, invites you to sing along; the lyrics are so banal, brilliantly simple, that you just have to sing along the second time you listen...
It just comes out of the vocal cords, for 34 minutes long, there's nothing you can do about it...
Therefore, the absence of the lyrics can also be overlooked, so the minus point is eliminated...
For a party, but also for drinking alone, the right music!
