We are more and we’ve had enough for a long time...“
Somehow, the impression has arisen that German-speaking punk bands have done relatively little against right-wing activities overall. At the big concerts, bands like K.I.Z or die Toten Hosen were more likely to be on stage. There was little engagement outside of festivals and concerts, where the audience is usually more left-leaning. One lives in their own bubble. I certainly don’t want to generalize all bands, but is my impression really that wrong?
POPPERKLOPPER probably reached their breaking point at some point and grabbed their label colleagues from FAHNENFLUCHT, MISSSTAND, and ALARMSIGNAL, dragged them into the studio, and recorded a song with them. This is fitting given the fact and the motto of the concert that took place last year in Chemnitz, which is also the title of the first song, “We are more.”
“We are more” is a clear statement against right-wing activities, brown ideologies, Pegida, Nazis, AfD, and whatever else is fishing on the right. Yes, AfD are Nazis. There’s no discussion about that.
“We are more” is a long-overdue song from a band that has been against the right from the very beginning. The same goes for the other involved bands.
As a second song, there’s “Close your ears and go for it,” a classic song from POPPERKLOPPER. A song that gives courage, that provides strength to continue on one’s path or even to start it at all, no matter what others say. In that respect, it fits perfectly on this 7”. Stand up and stand by yourself. It doesn’t matter if others like you. If necessary, speak up, take a stand, and be true to yourself. By the way, that’s good for the soul too.
All good things come in threes. So there’s “Antifascista,” a cover of the unfortunately no longer existing band “Rejected Youth” from Nuremberg, featuring Magenta Caulfield.
Three songs, three times solid, powerful, melodic punk rock with a clear message. What’s there to complain about? Oh, right, the three songs are only available on 7” vinyl and only three hundred times. So be quick and grab it.
By the way, POPPERKLOPPER are announcing a new album for the end of the year. Just in time for...hold on...the 30th anniversary!!
And for everyone in Saxony, Brandenburg, and Thuringia:
Go vote, choose the right parties or Die Partei.
Stand up to the right!
