Hats off. It must not have been easy to bring together TIME TO LIVE from Kiev and ANGSTBREAKER from Leipzig for this split CD project. Both bands haven't been around for long; the six (!) Leipzig musicians have only been playing together for a year, while the four Ukrainians have been active since 2009. Musically, both bands are top-notch! The guys have certainly played in various bands before. Both bands also belong to the hardcore scene, with TIME TO LIVE being more rock-oriented and ANGSTBREAKER being more aggressive. So far, the two bands fit well with their 5 songs on this split CD.
However, there is a significant difference in the vocals, which are both in English (the only commonality). While ANGSTBREAKER features two singers who alternate between screaming and singing and do a great job, TIME TO LIVE has only one vocalist, and unfortunately, he often lacks harmony. Even the backing vocals don't help; at times, it even sounds more off-key coming from the speakers. That's unacceptable!
Thus, TIME TO LIVE can't score more than 2 points. ANGSTBREAKER, on the other hand, looks different; if they were to present more than just these 10 minutes of playtime, I would easily give them 8 points.
So I add the points of both bands and divide them by 2, which gives a score of 5 points for this split CD.
