Alongside the CD, I also received an elaborate promotional package for EMMA6's second album. These pages are nice to look at and show that the label has high hopes for this band. However, it also makes it clear that they are trying to fill the coffers with the new sound of post- and alternative music in the German language. Now, making money is a necessary evil to survive somewhat, and in itself, it is not inherently reprehensible, but doesn't a lot of musical identity get lost in the process? This question cannot be answered definitively, but with EMMA6, one does not get that impression.
From the dancefloor track “Drehen uns im Kreis,” which doesn’t quite fit into the overall concept of the album and thus causes more than just a puzzled raising of eyebrows, to the yearning “Wärst du die Welt” and the painful “Wie es nie war,” the range of songs is broad. Musically wrapped in a mix of indie pop, post-poppunk, singer-songwriter rock, and alternative electro, the sound cannot be pigeonholed. The lyrics are often very personal, emotional, and at the same time analytical and introspective. One has to engage with this. A quick dismissal of the album is, of course, possible, but then you miss eleven songs that reveal their depth and strength through intense listening.

The album is for the quiet moments in life that one enjoys spending alone without falling into deep melancholy or depression.
EMMA6 is not German elevator pop but rather sophisticated music for the discerning listener who does not necessarily need to have a master's degree in psychology or philosophy.
