How can you tell that vinyl is making a comeback?

The EP by BAD DRUGS reached me as a 7". I call that a great thing, especially since I’m someone who still has a few records in the cupboard, so I’m doubly pleased.
The three-man band is formed around Matze (among others, former Tagtraum). Guitar, bass, drums, and soul—usually, that's all you need to make good punk rock. BAD DRUGS doesn’t need anything more. The result is impressive.
The songs are situated somewhere in the eighties. You can hear at least a handful of bands that were big back then. But these aren’t the angry bands; rather, they are the ones that arranged their songs in mid-tempo, and aside from the ingredients of melody, catchiness, and sing-along factor, nothing else came out of it.
Sometimes it’s the simplicity of the songs that makes the difference. BAD DRUGS has understood that. Somewhere between The Clash, The Ramones, Descendents, and Bad Religion, the sound is oriented, and damn, it’s fun.
The songs come across fresh and not at all outdated. I wouldn’t call this, as the promo sheet does, post-punk, but simply punk rock as it should be.
There’s not much more to say about this EP. A great debut from a band that stands out with its name and hopefully we’ll hear more from them soon!
