GET DEAD means something like "Go die" or "Croak." A nice, romantic band name, indeed. Almost as good as Terrorgruppe.
Beautiful punk rock, full of hate. With a band name like that, you're sure to get immediate radio play and be named the "Band of the Advent" during the upcoming Christmas season, especially since the title of their new album is "Bad News."
The band from California has been around since 2007. During their existence, they have been quite active, recently completing a European tour, and the band from San Francisco has also played several gigs in the USA.
As evil as the name sounds, their name is not their program.
The band plays songs that lean more towards singer-songwriter. Sometimes electronically enhanced, sometimes more acoustic. Sometimes leaning towards garage and '77 punk, but without the noisy elements, sometimes almost tender lyrics with guitar. Everything is kept at mid-tempo or slower, creating a personal, almost intimate atmosphere.
This doesn't quite match the cover and the images in the booklet. The band looks more like they play energetic hardcore or punk in the style of Born to Lose. It's somewhat strange, as most bands try to present themselves on the cover and in the booklet as they actually are. Here I think there are two different bands whose covers and booklets have been swapped at the pressing plant.
What speaks for punk rock is that the album is released on Fat Wreck, a label known for good punk music.
Maybe this is also Neo-Post-Future-Punk and I just have no idea; it could be anything. I don't always catch everything.
Despite the confusion the band creates with their music and the contrasting packaging, the record is quite enjoyable and well-suited for a cozy evening at the bar. You don't always have to be in the pit, especially not when you're almost 40.
