Christians have the Bible.
Muslims have the Koran.
Jews have the Talmud, and what do Rockabillys and Psychobillys have?
The PSYCHOMANIA - fanzine!
The ninth issue has finally seen the light of day with some delay and has found its way to my dwelling with even more delay.
The two creators did not hold back for this issue and included not one, but two supplements – CDs with a total of 50 songs alongside the 150-page DIN A5 fanzine, which is entirely in color and professionally designed.
The whole thing costs less than a two-digit euro amount. It costs 7 €, let’s call it the annual issue.
The 150 pages contain everything that makes the heart of Rockabilly and Psychobilly beat faster. Bands that currently play a role in the scene and/or are represented on the supplement CD were interviewed. It’s a joy to read, as not all bands are known even to scene experts, and even if they are, there’s always an anecdote that elicits a surprised “Aha” or “Oh, I see.”
Additionally, some bands provide a sort of liner notes commentary on their current songs as well as a handful of reviews.
The issue is bilingual, meaning each interview is presented in German followed by the English version. This makes the issue not only limited to the German-speaking area but also readable anywhere in the world. A clever move and very smart, as it results in only one issue and no distribution problems (which is generally handled through scene shops, etc.).
For those who need more arguments to purchase the work, here’s a very brief summary of the content:
Interviews with, among others:
The Griswalds, Nekromantix, The Quakes, Frantic Flintstones, Mad Dog Cole, Out of Luck
The following bands are also represented on the supplement CD with a song:
The Griswalds, Sir Psyko and his Monsters, Out of Luck, Mad Dog Cole, Evil Daltons, Nekromantix, The Quakes, Hopeless Chicken Freaks, Tony Montanas, Rapids, Stressor
Some bands have even contributed previously unreleased songs to the two CDs, such as:
Evil Daltons, The Trillionairs, Sgt. Bilko’s Krazy Combo, The Swampys, Spider and the Tourettes, Devil’n Us, Thunderbirdhead, Rapids.
In summary, the PSYCHOMANIA - fanzine with its ninth issue is a powerful dose of Billy.
PSYCHOMANIA - fanzine, the fanzine for all Billies! No one can pass this by!
