Who’s in the mood for awesome female-fronted (punk) rock like Juliette & The Licks? Then you’re exactly right with “The Baboon Show”!!! The smoky voice of the singer is convincing, and she proves that she can scream perfectly. The other instruments are also rocking!
Their punk rock is diverse; for example, the song “It wasn't me” is typical simple punk rock (though they’ve managed to bring professionalism into it and have arranged the song well).
Some songs slightly remind me of old rock: “Fire over Stockholm City” partly reminds me of classics like AC/DC.
You can hear very light synths in “What a Feeling,” and “Dancehall Killers” is also dance-heavy with a prominent bass (reminds me of LeTigre).
“Hallelujah” is a very heavy song; the band delivers something like blues-rock here with a lot of suffering.
I’ve been playing the CD on repeat for a while now. It’s hard to pigeonhole the band because you can hear so many influences: a bit of Distillers, The Sounds, Juliette Lewis, LeTigre, and also bands like The Hives, AC/DC, and The Who. Pure punk sounds different, but this here sounds anything but wrong :-P
