The Spanish comic artist Dani Montero won the Premio Castelo de Banda Desenada de la Diputaciòn de la Coruna with his debut work "No Looking Back" (I have no idea what that means). The German translation by "Edition 52" is the first foreign translation. The original is "Galician" (Is that Gaelic??)
The comic appears quite cute with its characters, yet it should not be read by children. The characters have a lot going on behind their innocent appearances, even though the comic is not really violent. However, the deep abysses of the characters do not match the loose lines of the drawings. They seem very sketched yet still professional. They remind me of storyboard drawings from, for example, Disney.
It's hard to say much about the plot, as every sentence reveals too much. I will still try to write a bit about it:
Jaime is left by his girlfriend and is thus torn from his ordinary life. Together with his dog, he leaves his city and accidentally ends up in another place, where he builds a new life. However, he only takes on a job as a helper and somehow wastes his life. Besides his dog, he finds no friends in the new city. This isolation awakens a fantasy in his coworkers...
The story is quite good but didn't completely captivate me. There are some moments, however, that are unexpected.
Definitely worth a read!
