And once again, a hardcore band.
I have the feeling that we currently have a lot of them at ramtatta.de, along with many young bands. That’s a good thing at first, as it shows that this music and the subculture are not dead. However, in hardcore, the wheel is usually not reinvented.
GO FOR IT! from the Ruhr area is one such band.
Still relatively young and committed, the band has been making waves in the scene for 5 years and has already played with heavyweights like Sick of it All, Terror, First Blood, Born From Pain, and 50 Lions. They have also participated in larger festivals. A resume that reads excellently. With that, one can even brag a little and surely find gigs relatively easily, because anyone who has played with the aforementioned bands can't be that bad.
GO FOR IT! are indeed not bad. You can tell their five years of experience in their debut album. The songs are elaborate, yet mostly arranged in a hardcore-typical manner. The band has made an effort to give each song the space it needs to resonate. The guys can also handle softer tones, so there is a lot of work with intros and outros. This gives the songs more individual impact, and the attentive listener looks expectantly at their system, wondering how it will proceed.
However, the fourteen songs do not manage to convince as a whole. The desire to do something different from other bands and to stand out is evident in the quartet, and that must be highly credited. It takes courage. However, with the essence of the songs, they are still just swimming in the waters of hardcore.
The band says they want to make hardcore for punks and punk for hardcore kids. A nice approach, but that is asking too much of the band here.
GO FOR IT! make hardcore, certainly not entirely typical but also not much different. The slow parts are sometimes simply too long, and the songs are too typical to really stand out from the crowd. It’s not a bad album, but it’s also nothing special. A good average, and thus it deserves a solid 5 points.
