Jamiri (real name Jan-Michael Richter) is considered the most read German comic artist. It's quite embarrassing that I didn't know anything about him until now.
Since 1990, Jamiri has been earning his living with comics. In 1992, he began drawing for the Ruhr area city magazine Marabo, and afterwards, he was very active, appearing in the student magazine Unicum and as the "house artist" for Spiegel Online. From time to time, he releases a comic album in A4 format. Currently, there are 13, and the latest of these albums is right in front of me: "Memme Fatale" (published by Edition 52 Verlag).
Jamiri has a relatively unusual drawing style – somewhere between photo and comic. His humor is sharp! Delightfully cynical, ironic, and thus also self-ironic. He addresses topics from his everyday life, but in a very exaggerated manner – it can't really be called autobiographical. Several times, he has caused minor scandals with his comic tips. He often has quirky conversations with God, whom he depicts as an old man with a white beard, and his satire often comes across as very sexist, provoking his readers.
Memme Fatale contains 44 comic strips – only one of them is two-sided. It covers topics such as Facebook, internet trolls, marriage, taking out the trash, his success, and topics that were once relevant ;-) One noticeable aspect is the advertising in his comics. He does not hide the fact that he is sponsored by the graphic tablet company "Wacom." On the back of the album, there is a logo of the company, and it states: "Jamiri works with CINTIQ(TM) interactive pen displays from Wacom."
However, you can also find Apple, Burton, Vital Plus, Becel, families in crisis, Gdansk, Bosch, loud-fm.com, Elite-Partner, Skype, Sasha Lobo, Knut, etc. Perhaps a societal evil if one wants to stay close to reality; somehow, almost every action of a person is an advertisement (even when you pick up your phone).
This, however, does not prevent the fact that his comic strips are laugh-out-loud funny. Often wicked, mean, and one gets the impression that Jamiri is a foul-mouthed creep. As a reader, you have fun if you like "grumpy" people. It's worth taking a look at Jamiri!
