THE HOLY KINGS from Regensburg caught our attention at ramtatta.de as early as the beginning of 2012 when the split 7" with WHITE FLAG was released (read about it at ramtatta.de under: http://www.ramtatta.de/reviews,id-1217,go-white+flag+the+holy+kings+2b+vs+lilb+the+moronho+redbone+muldauer+deathmatch.html). The songs included here come from the recording session with WHITE FLAG and were released on a beautiful 7" vinyl single in blue-black-splattered vinyl.
Interestingly, the band's songs come across better here than on the split 7" that was released in February. Bands like Frontkick and Radio Dead Ones immediately come to mind. THE HOLY KINGS deliver a similar sound here. Gritty melodic street punk with a solid '77 influence and great singalongs. It's a sound I would expect more from a band from Berlin, as the mentioned bands come from the capital and have significantly shaped this sound. The Regensburg band fits in comfortably and shows that they definitely have something to offer.
It even seems that the four guys from Regensburg selected the better songs from the recording session with WHITE FLAG for this release, as these tracks hit harder and are definitely more enjoyable than the pieces they included on the split 7".
In conclusion, one can only say that THE HOLY KINGS have released a damn good single with “Can you hear me?”. Four songs that are fun and leave you wanting more. I look forward to the band's next album and hope they won't make us wait too long.
