When I found the CD of Die Beschmierten in my mailbox, the whole work made a very sympathetic impression right from the start, accompanied by a nice letter asking if I would like to review the album "An der Theke". I had never heard of the band from Westphalian Greven before, but there was also a band bio of the drinking trio included. The title of the record already hinted at the direction it was going, and upon first listen, I was immediately reminded of bands like DIMPLE MINDS or DIE LOKALMATADORE, musically hard punk rock with a metal touch that really hits you in the face. There are 15 songs offered that are absolutely suitable for the next drinking binge, as the album thematically revolves around the always relevant topic of alcohol! And whoever says again that this old drinking theme is worn out or that they feel too old for it, DIE BESCHMIERTEN refer to their music as pub music, so it’s reasonable to assume that this music is mostly about drinking! If you don’t like it, just skip it; nevertheless, the record deserves its place in record stores just as much as more serious lyrical songs and bands from the punk and metal scene. "An der Theke" is indeed an album for the next party and against bad moods. Especially the song "Wampengott" will be played more often in my player! "I drink and my belly, yes it grows wisely, instead of the old six-pack I got a barrel! That’s what I want, what I’ve always wanted, a belly down to my knees, that’s why I sing today - Wampengott - Into all the junk". Musically, the band also brings in their own style; the singer has a raspy voice, and now and then there’s the use of a melodica, and in "Wampengott" there’s a nice organ solo that makes the music quite varied. As a bonus to the record, there’s also a booklet designed with pub impressions, featuring all the lyrics for sing-alongs!!!! All in all, a successful self-production, and worth listening to.
