The crazy Finns are back, or ELÄKELÄISET have a new album!
Since March 23, 2012, the album released by Nordic Notes, titled “Humppasheikkailu,” has been available.
Seventeen tracks full of Humppa can be heard.
The Kings of Humppa have not held back and offer exactly what one expects from them. A minimalist beat, driven by a small drum kit, a keyboard, accordion, bass, guitar, and of course, the Finnish vocals.
It’s exactly what one knows from the Finns, and fans will immediately embrace the album. Those who have had little to do with the band so far will still shake their heads and not understand why the band is so popular.
Well, actually, it’s quite simple. You take more or less well-known songs, distort them by running the songs through the Humppa-wolf, and rewrite the lyrics with your own interpretation in Finnish. Finnish sounds funny to foreign ears and is hardly singable for non-Finns. You can’t even hear from the language what the words mean. Then you go on stage, drink quite a bit of beer and vodka during the concert, and play cheerful Humppa. The band has been doing this for years, and that’s why they have been loved for years.
Whether metalhead, punk, average Joe, or lover of quirky music, everyone sings and dances together to Humppa. Of course, the throat doesn’t stay dry, and the concerts of the Finns are continuously a big party! The band has just as much fun as the audience.
It’s pointless to ponder which original version is hiding behind the played songs. After all, it’s not a guessing game but Humppa!
There’s really little to say as a conclusion, “Humppasheikkailu” is Humppa as you love it, and soon the Finns will be back on tour.
It will be a celebration to party with the band again. I’m looking forward to it.
