The intro of the album by DIVING FOR SUNKEN TREASURE bears the affordable name “Queen Anne´s Revenge“. More Western than Caribbean. More dirty than clean and surely the soundtrack to the next Django film.
Next up is “Treasure Island“. A song somewhere between Caribbean, Gypsy, and Country. Between rum and firewater. Between Monkey Island and Pirates of the Caribbean. It gets under your skin, captivates, and makes you crave more.
DIVING FOR SUNKEN TREASURE from Berlin don’t need much encouragement. On their CD with 12 tracks, they get the listener to sway and dance. It’s not easy to describe the style of the guys. It’s a perfect mix of Rockabilly, Gypsy, Country, a bit of Blues, and a portion of Swing and Flamenco.
I would call it Dirty Gypsy Countrybilly and open a new drawer.
The band recorded the album entirely by themselves and completed a larger tour in January. More concerts will follow in the spring, and I can imagine that the band is absolutely captivating live. A club like the Berliner Bassy Cowboy Club or the Kreuzberg Wild at Heart would likely have the right audience for this band.
It’s music that somehow captures the magic of the night in an adult way, and still manages to maintain the tension of the night.
The sound should also unfold its magic and have an effect during a night drive in the car.
DIVING FOR SUNKEN TREASURE are a discovery that fits perfectly between stylistic chairs and shows that music doesn’t have to be bound to a style. Music is the language of the heart with different means. The Berliners convey this brilliantly with their entertaining album “Raaa!".
