ARMY RISING come from Ireland, which is quite unusual for a metal band. Ireland is not exactly the mecca of this genre. Rather, Ireland is almost exotic.
Not only was the band discovered by the well-known label Rising Records, but they are also a damn young combo. The five guys haven't even celebrated their 20th birthday yet. Just having outgrown the worst of puberty, the quintet delivers a performance that is impressive.
ARMY RISING play at a high technical level, especially considering how extremely young they are. In this regard, their achievement cannot be praised enough. Either these are extremely talented musicians or people who have spent years in their free time doing nothing but listening to and making music.
Moreover, ARMY RISING do not play some ultra-brutal hard pounding sound but rather draw inspiration from their dad's record collection. Dad still has records. There was a time when there were no MP3 players, only big black discs. They are called vinyl and had covers that said Iron Maiden, Pantera, Metallica, and similar bands. It was the era of 80s (thrash) metal. This time has not left the band untouched. The mentioned bands are rough indicators of their style.
ARMY RISING is indeed a band that breathes new life into the good old thrash metal without sounding like a caricature or forced and unskilled.
It is a sound that comes heavy like a steamroller, with understandable vocals and many guitar solos. An exception to this is the song “War,” which reminds me of the good old Depp Jones and leans quite towards the dark side. There are other songs that go in that direction, where more metal elements are drawn than in Depp Jones, which are more aligned with the rock genre.
ARMY RISING are a band that undoubtedly surprises a lot. So young and already so good.
It is to be hoped that this will be appreciated by the metal community around the world.
