The album by DESTINE reached me without a booklet and information, almost anonymously. So while listening to the album, I first set out to find out about the band, as I want to know who or what is moving in my player.
DESTINE comes from the Netherlands, but otherwise my research was not very fruitful. The band has some gigs coming up in the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria. The pictures circulating of the guys look like the band has been stuck in the '90s at some point, at least in terms of appearance. Musically, that cannot be claimed.
On “Lightspeed,” the band shows that they have a brilliant sense for pop melodies. The melodies are catchy and manage to bring a smile to your face in no time. Sweet pop-punk melodies paired with a vocal style that will surely enchant many girls between 12 and 16, but the melodies are also suitable for the older generation. There’s little sentimentality here, but plenty of choruses and melody, melody, and melody. The song coach has taught DESTINE a lot, and they follow it. This is radio-friendly, suitable for the masses, not for the subculture. It sounds wonderful for casual listening or even for dancing. Sure, it’s pop-punk, but who cares? Sometimes it’s nice to just move to the music. That’s called dancing, as far as I know.
If you’re into pop-punk, you should definitely give DESTINE a try. The band is catchy, it might leave your head quickly, but 45 minutes of fun is sometimes simply better than frustrating boredom.
