TEX MORTON is a guitarist and has been at home in rock 'n' roll in all its facets on this side and the other side of the Spree for ages. TEX has played in countless bands and projects (including Mad Sin, Lüde & die Astros, Sunny Domestosz, Nitro 17). He is a veteran and knows just about everyone in the scene.
At some point, the good Tex had the thought that he could also record his very own music. He did this with the help of his friends Holly and Andy Laaf (including Mad Sin, Die Skeptiker). The result is an instrumental 4-track 7" in blood-red vinyl. It looks absolutely stunning. The piece is titled “Speedway Maniac“ and pays tribute to the time when cars were big and called muscle cars. It was the 60s, a time when people enjoyed life with big cars and rock 'n' roll. The title track actually reminds me of the good old days, and if there is a director out there who wants to pay homage to that era in the form of a really cool movie, he should please use the title song for the first few minutes of the film. He can alternatively use the second song. A wonderful 60s rock 'n' roll rockabilly sound.
Side B starts a bit more quietly with “Counterweight“. The song is perfect for dancing with your beloved and, of course, for dreaming. With the last song “Mr Spooky goes to town“, Tex shows what he can do on the guitar. He extracts the notes from the instrument with finesse and great differentiation.
If you are into 60s rock 'n' roll rockabilly sound, you can't go wrong with this 7“. With “Speedway Maniac“, TEX MORTON has set himself a little monument.
