In 2009, the much-discussed and acclaimed album “Voluptuous Panic“ by KAMIKAZE QUEENS was released. Since then, the band has been touring extensively both domestically and internationally. And everywhere they have been celebrated. Whether in Finland or Italy, the band has struck a chord with their unique blend of punk rock, '20s cabaret, eroticism, rock 'n' roll, and all the associated dark and dirty thoughts.
Now, the Swedish label Heptown has taken the plunge and released a 7“ with two new tracks from KAMIKAZE QUEENS.
Just the cover alone deserves an award. At first glance, it’s extremely colorful, but upon closer inspection, it resembles a drawing for a freak show advertisement from the '20s. Surreal elements are firmly intertwined with horror elements. And above it all, the two singers of the band gaze at us with large scars on their heads, necks, and torsos. A horror cabinet, sprung directly from the depths of the human mind.
The song on the A-side bears the beautiful name “Tastee 29“. If you translate the two numbers into English, you already know what the song is about. Thematically anchored firmly in the cosmos of KAMIKAZE QUEENS, the song tells a hauntingly beautiful story. A song by KAMIKAZE QUEENS that fits like a passionate fist to the eye of the beloved beautiful woman.
The song “3 Strikes“ on the B-side is a bit poppier and more country-influenced than “Tastee 29“. Nevertheless, it leaves a somewhat more sophisticated impression overall, without being cumbersome. With repeated listens, it even gets under your skin more than “Tastee 29“. And the way Trinity and Mad Kate sing here is simply enchanting.
Even though there are unfortunately only two songs, it is evident that KAMIKAZE QUEENS have further refined and polished their style. This is certainly also due to the good musicians in the band, such as Tex Morton (Mad Sin, Sunny Domestozs, Chip Hanna) and Luscious Lloyd (Sin City Circus Ladies). See you at the next show in Berlin.
