The label Bridge Nine has been dedicated for years to promoting hardcore bands in all their various styles and releasing their records.
CEREMONY from California also belong to the Bridge Nine family.
The reason for this becomes clear when listening to their new album “Rohnert Park.” The band plays technically demanding old-school hardcore with a lot of flair. The sound is so old school that it not only reminds one of the first wave of American hardcore but seems to spring directly from it. One feels as if they are listening to a lost record from the old bands of the 80s.
Alongside fast, hardcore-crushing songs, there are also some tracks that almost venture into doom territory, but there are also those that one would assign more to the hardcore punk / screamo scene than to hardcore.
CEREMONY is a band that gives hardcore back the roots that are so important. It’s not about any kind of homage to history, but about what hardcore was and is. Honest, underground, and unpredictable.
CEREMONY has succeeded in capturing a small masterpiece on CD, merging the anger, frustration, and inaccessibilities of the world with personal pain.
