There are few bands that captivate me right away.
There are few bands that exude so much energy on stage.
There are few bands like PIPES AND PINTS !!
The first time, the band from the Czech Republic immediately drew me in. I was simply enchanted by them. Therefore, I couldn't understand why they had struggled for so long to find a label willing to release their debut.
Now this label has been found with Wolverine Records from Düsseldorf. Finally!!
PIPES AND PINTS play Irish-Folk-Punk like The Real McKenzies, but even faster, crazier, and with more energy than a hefty dose of speed! Despite the speed, the band plays cleanly and precisely together. It is a true joy to listen to the band!
Live, the band is among the best I have seen in years!
But can the band also capture this energy on their debut album?
Right from the first song, it becomes clear. Yes, they succeed! After a very cool bagpipe intro, it kicks off super with “Let´s Go“. This is followed by the brilliant “City by the Sea“, followed by the equally fast “All I know“. The recording comes across well, all instruments, the rough vocals of Syco, and especially the bagpipe are clearly audible. There is a solid pressure behind it. Pressure that makes the band live what they are. Not quite as vehement as on stage, but pretty good. It’s also difficult to tell someone about your last drug trip and what you felt and saw. You have to experience it. It’s the same with the band. Live, they are true gods!
Is there any criticism of the album? Yes, it is too short! After 13 songs, “Until we die“ is over, but there is always the repeat button. This CD won't be coming out of my player anytime soon.
There are just two more things to say. The CD comes in a beautiful digipack with a hand-drawn cover, and the band can be seen in Germany throughout the year. I hope they make it to Berlin this year as well.
