20 years of THE PEACOCKS. Once again, a band celebrating a milestone anniversary. It seems like almost every other band is hitting a round number this year.
THE PEACOCKS come from Switzerland and have been known not only there for a few years but also in Germany and probably now in almost all of Western Europe. The band has made a name for itself through continuous touring and their impressive live show.
Now, with "After All," their eighth album is being released. The album is packed with 15 songs, which is surprisingly full for a band in the (Neo-)Rockabilly genre. However, THE PEACOCKS have never been strictly devoted to pure Rockabilly since their inception. Instead, the band took Rockabilly as a foundation for their songs. They incorporated punk influences, rock influences, and occasionally a dose of pop here and there. This has created an explosive mix, and since the three guys also master their instruments, there are still plenty of catchy, danceable melodies.
The album is diverse; there are very calm pieces, but most of the songs are danceable and stick in your head. Notably, the opener "After All" stands out, as well as the brilliant "Not Your Man" and the beautiful punk-neorockabilly song "Thanks for the young idea." "Shiftless" also comes across as really cool, with the double bass being swung in a truly delightful way.
With "After All," THE PEACOCKS have once again put together a great album that surely won't please scene purists, but will appeal to anyone who likes to look beyond the obvious. And with their music, THE PEACOCKS might just bring a few young fans into the world of Rockabilly.
