A tribute to SLIME. Can this go well? SLIME is still the most famous and certainly the best German punk band that has ever existed. The bar is set high here.
SLIME has influenced countless bands. SLIME has given countless people courage. The songs of SLIME are still relevant, often even more relevant than ever. It's no wonder that songs by SLIME are still played at demos and protests.
Now, 54 bands have set out to pay tribute to the Hamburg band. Among them are big names like DIE TOTEN HOSEN, DRITTE WAHL, BROILERS, SS-KALIERT, VOLXSTURM, and BROILERS. Many scene bands also join in. Each band has covered and re-recorded one song. Of course, one can have differing opinions on whether the songs of SLIME can be improved. However, this question should not be asked, as it would result in mere clumsy imitation. Can the songs of SLIME be wrapped in a different guise while still retaining their message and anger?
One cannot certainly answer this question, as music, as always, is a matter of taste. However, it can be said that due to this truly extensive work, everyone will find songs they like and songs they like less.
On each of the two CDs, there are tracks that have turned out really great, and some that one cannot endure after 5 seconds. However, everyone will also find their favorite song here, as most bands have really put in the effort. Many interpretations are interesting, making this opulent sampler worthwhile for anyone who has a bit of punk and rebellion in their blood. In the booklet, there are comments from each band about SLIME. Here, one can see how much influence this band still has.
