This band consists of three women from Australia who have already made a big name for themselves on the distant island in their three-year existence. Their rise has been particularly rapid in the psychobilly scene. Now the three have set their sights on Europe. Until now, their releases have not been available here. That is about to change, as the small, friendly label Halb 7 Records from Dessau has taken on this band. “Darkness Calls…” is a best-of album that the three women have put together to delight us with their sound.
Releasing a kind of best-of after three years either shows a firm belief in having it really good, or it indicates megalomania.
The thirteen songs of the band have a very unique style that is hard to describe. Many elements from the New Wave genre are unmistakably present, but there are also many elements of dark rock, horror punk, as well as rockabilly and psychobilly influences to be heard. I would describe the style as Horrible Female Dark Horror-Rock. Particularly striking is the singing of BRIGITTE HANDLEY, which gives the songs a wickedness and a very own dark note. This fits very well with the songs, which are equipped with a lot of melody, thus encouraging dancing.
BRIGITTE HANDLEY do not need to hide their sound in Europe. Those who like it dark and are not afraid of style mixtures should definitely check out “Darkness Calls…”.
