What a fuss it caused when Muff Potter released "Heute wird gewonnen bitte" after the acclaimed "Bordsteinkantengeschichten." The general consensus was that they had sold out and become boring. They had supposedly catered to the mainstream. Even back then, I couldn't understand the grumbling. My goodness. So what if the melodies have become a bit catchier?! Maybe the music doesn't fit perfectly into the punk drawer anymore. But Muff Potter plays extremely punchy guitar pop that kicks ass! You could also call it pop punk, although thankfully the punk influence has remained dominant. With their current release "Steady Fremdkörper," they continue to move in this direction. However poppy the music may sound at times, the lyrics are all the more bitter and dark. This is the Caipirinha for the ears. Sweet in taste and sour in the finish. The only downside to the album is that there are only eleven songs on it. Maybe that's why the CD isn't so expensive; still, two to three more songs would have been nice. In my opinion, 8 out of these eleven songs are immediately appealing, and among them, there are more than just a handful of hits. Summer is here, and so is this album. Perfect timing!
