14 tracks, just over 30 minutes of playtime, recorded without any technical studio frills and completed in just three days, form the basis for the second release by the Northerners of HALLO KWITTEN. When a band works so minimally, it feels "real", it feels "punk", and it makes them likable. However, whether it reaches the status of an absolute masterpiece is another question. But maybe that’s not what HALLO KWITTEN wants at all. All band members are still involved in other musical projects, and singer/drummer Piet, who also plays with TURBOSTAAT, already has some musical success to show for it. And that bothers me a bit about "Gurus Of Peace". Man, what a great record this could have been. Here, BLACK FLAG meets TURBONEGRO and HOT WATER MUSIC meets MOTÖRHEAD. Here, it’s raw, here, it’s alive. However, if they had taken a bit more time and perhaps relied on some technical know-how in the studio, a real gem could have been born here. But as mentioned before, maybe that’s not what HALLO KWITTEN wants, and that should be respected. Nevertheless, I am left with the dull aftertaste of a demo release, and unfortunately, I have to look for other bands in my record collection to bring that feeling of the "No idea" generation into my home......
