The Saxon band Wehrlos has been around for over ten years, and after several demos and singles, here is their first professional album. Released by Nix Gut. First, I read through the lyrics in the booklet. Sure, it's German punk, the content isn't reinventing the wheel, but it's political, rebellious, not dull, and the themes are relatable! Now, let's focus on the CD: A long spoken intro from some movie, well done! Unfortunately, I've already experienced the above-average aspects of this CD with the content and intro. Don't get me wrong, you are definitely okay punks, have a good attitude, critically engage with your own scene, and with a beer in hand, I would probably have fun at one of your concerts! But I wouldn't buy it on CD... The music is solid and on the heavier side. The drums are recorded too dominantly for my taste. The promo text mentions Recharge, ACK, Baffdecks - that's spot on! Sometimes it feels a bit sluggish, but no wonder when 12 songs last over 50 minutes. The problem I have with the CD is the vocals! Those who know me understand that I am truly the last person to complain about other punk singers. Being a German punk singer myself with moderate basic prerequisites. With the Wehrlos singer, okay, you can hardly understand a word, and I'm not particularly fond of this kind of overly harsh screaming. Nevertheless, some songs are vocally tolerable. However, others completely take off my laced boots! I quote a friend who was sitting in my apartment when the "hits" "Linksfaschist" (by the way, a pretty good text!) and "Bierpolitik" were playing: "Disgusting! Terrible!" Strangely enough, the CD starts to become a bit enjoyable for me upon repeated listening, even the vocals! Although in some places only for entertainment purposes. By now, I've even identified a little hit with "Für Dich" and can no longer tear it apart with a clear conscience as I initially intended. Strange CD, I need a beer...
