CENTER OF THE PYRE, that sounds like a band from Scotland.
Far from it. This band comes from Germany. They are releasing their second album with the vinyl record "Dunn Sh’raeg" on August 28, 2026.
I’m not really sure why the album is coming out in late summer. Musically, October or even better, November would be more fitting. Or the cold, dark February. Why? The band showcases with the eight songs on vinyl (there's a bonus track available digitally) what they do very well. CENTER OF THE PYRE can effectively encapsulate a sad, angry mood in a gloomy sound. This mood arises from the eternal question that the band explores in all its facets on the album:
Why do people fear everything that is "different" and why must they hate and destroy it?
I find myself reminded of earlier Cold Wave dance events, or even the sound of some Gothic bands. For Gothic, the music might be a bit too experimental and genre-crossing, but for anyone who enjoys Cold Wave, Dark Wave, or Dark Rock (if that genre description even still exists), this band will surely be appreciated.
It feels a bit strange to listen to this band on a warm, cozy rooftop terrace at sunset.
The music will surely feel even better when it’s cold and dark, just like society and our future prospects.
