We will find out when we put the CD of the second album by the band from the area north of Milan into the CD player.
The band calls their second album "Palchi e Barricate," which translates to "Stages and Barricades" in German. Where the band stands is already made clear by the cover, which is slightly overloaded with symbolism. This is not about soft rock, but about clear leftist positions. These positions are presented in a catchy mix of punk rock and Oi. It is a loud version of driving street punk that has received a decent portion of Oi for refinement. The style of MEDIUM BEER somewhat resembles Los Fastidios when the band still played Oi and street punk.
MEDIUM BEER show that there is politically engaged punk rock in Italy!
For years, little has come from Italy, even according to statements from Italian bands like Talco or Los Fastidios. There was a lack of everything, making it nearly impossible for young bands to gain national recognition. MEDIUM BEER are among these young bands. The band from Lombardy is fortunate that "Palchi e Barricate" is released on the label Kob Records, which is also the label of Los Fastidios. This will give the band a significant boost in recognition. I am convinced of this not only because of the label but also because the band recorded the twelve songs with a lot of enthusiasm and energy. This energy is infectious.
The songs are powerful, melodic, and yet raw.
MEDIUM BEER have released a rough diamond with "Palchi e Barricate," which, as unpolished as it is, contains extreme potential.
Even after multiple listens, the songs do not wear out. This shows how good the tracks are. If the band plays live at least as well as on the album, then the concerts will be exhilarating.
MEDIUM BEER are taking their next step with this album.
