BLONDIE was formed when I was at best in the planning stages.
It has been so long since this band made music history.
Now their seventh album, originally released in 1999, is coming out in an expanded and remastered version. The songs will be available on vinyl as well as on CD.
The album “No Exit“ was released 17 years (!) after the sixth album. During this time, a lot happened with the band, not much good, but a lot bad. The good thing was that BLONDIE came back together and from their ashes created something that made the rock and pop world tremble at the time. BLONDIE was not only back, but also presented the mega hit “Maria,” which alone received triple platinum in Germany and spent 25 weeks on the charts. Today, such a thing is unimaginable.
The tracks found on this release are well known to every BLONDIE fan. For all the non-experts, “No Exit“ features gems like “Nothing is real but the girl,” “Screaming Skin,” and of course “Maria.”
In addition to the 14 songs on the album, there are also eight mixes. Here opinions differ, partly because the mixes are very different. From my perspective, these were not necessary. They do show that BLONDIE's songs can work in other styles, but is that really needed? Isn’t that already clear?
BLONDIE is often categorized as New Wave, where they certainly belong.
I also see BLONDIE as significant in the disco realm. Danceable melodies paired with a sound that perfectly reflects the times in which the songs were recorded. One could even say they are timeless documents of their era.
BLONDIE has made music history. Not only with “No Exit,” but also.
BLONDIE has created melodies for eternity.
