New year, new music.
This is how I start the year 2025 with RADIOACTIVE TOYS.
The toy does not come from Mühlheim-Kärlich, Neckarwestheim, Brokdorf, or Lingen (Ems), but from Cologne.
The band is already taking a different approach with the title of their album than many bands.
Instead of saying it's bad, it's all crap, the band says “There's enough for everyone“. It’s just poorly distributed, one might want to add.
If I read the band history correctly, “There's enough for everyone“ is the second album in their band history and the first full-length album in 27 years.
This already has the format of Hammerhead (Bad Honnef) or ZZZ Hacker (Bielefeld).
So what does this work offer that many are expecting and few have anticipated?
The work offers HC, punk rock, subversive noise, overdriven guitar sound, something with skate punk, anarchistic sound walls, and so much more.
The nine tracks are bursting with variety and show that the band has put in 110% effort here. Something had to emerge here...
The lyrics are partly in English and partly in German.
“Das Telefon“ or “Arschfratze De“ are lyrically great songs. Lyrics that hit the point with a language I only know from Hammerhead or Hass.
In English, it continues similarly with “Piss on the lawn“.
Does “MS Loveboat“ bring a little peace as the last track?
RADIOACTIVE TOYS have released an album here that screams for a lot of attention. Personally, I find it a bit too over-the-top and somewhat exhausting in the long run. However, I know that there are people who love exactly this kind of music, and for them, RADIOACTIVE TOYS have brought the first noteworthy album of the year to the market.
