ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES are releasing a new album.
ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES 10 points.
Review finished.
Tribute to the best cover band in the world continues.
And now the long version.
Twenty years ago, “Ruin Johnny's Bar Mitzvah” was the band's first live album. Back then, they played at a Bar Mitzvah and recorded the fun. It really was fun and my first record by ME FIRST. Fat Mike was still with them back then.
Today, 20 years later, ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES have ruined another party, and this time it's not the celebration that makes boys into men, but the one that makes girls into women. Otherwise, the cornerstones are very similar. Instead of a bad party band and an even worse DJ, the best cover band in the world shows up and celebrates a show that many of the attendees have surely never seen in their lives.
Accordingly, they start with a cover of Black Sabbath, with the fitting title for the evening “Changes.” Listen to the version by Black Sabbath and then the version by ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES. Any questions?
Next, after an announcement that is somewhere between grandiose self-overestimation and reality, they continue with a song by Captain & Tennille and in between with a dream riff from another song, but I don't want to spoil too much.
The thirteen songs are a wild ride through the world of music. From rock to American folk music with a Mexican twist, through Abba and back.
This wonderful party also features brass for the first time with ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES. Since the band's last album was ten years ago, they are allowed to do that, of course. ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES can do anything.
Can you tell I'm excited?
Is there another band that can play songs by Abba and whose version is even better than the original? Well, to be fair, everything is better than Abba.
ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES have been an exceptional band live for years (haven't they always been?) and if anyone still needs confirmation that they still are, listen to the record and go to their concerts. The band is performing not only at major festivals but also in some smaller clubs. I promise, and I know from experience, seeing the band live is a celebration. A feast for the senses, an exuberant celebration where the following competitions take place:
Grinning competition
Dancing together joyfully with others
Singing along competition
Wondering what the band is doing on stage
And once all these competitions are completed, one can confidently say, there can hardly be anything better.
Yes, it is a cover band...
It is THE cover band!
